Relationships can be the hardest thing in the world to get through or the easiest. We make this hard on ourselves. It really is easy. Why would there be so many poems, songs and love stories if this were a hard and horrible thing to experience. To help make this the wonderful experience that it is meant to be, it never hurts to have a little advice.
Honesty has to be one the hardest things to achieve smoothly. Of course, it is best to be honest with your partner and you naturally demand honesty from him or her, as well. Unfortunately, humans lie for many reasons, for instance, to cover themselves, to not hurt someone’s feelings or to not “get in trouble.”
The key to honesty is that if you demand that your partner tell you the truth about everything, then you must be willing to accept it. Some people lie to avoid an argument. If you don’t make it into an argument and your partner will be more likely to tell you the complete truth.
One of the worst mistakes that you can make is to act too needy. Everyone has problems occasionally and may need someone to lean on and it is important that your partner be there for you during these times. However, acting too needy and calling constantly or texting all the time when your partner is away from you is the wrong thing to do.
No one can be a person’s everything. You need to spend time with your hobbies and your friends. Make sure you have a life of your own and that you don’t need to spend every single second with your partner.
You don’t want to try and control your partner. Making someone report to you constantly does not make for a happy partner. Just as you need some time to spend with your friends and doing the things you’ve always enjoyed before the relationship, so does your significant other.
You should never get into a relationship and think that you can change the other person. The only person you have control over is you. If you don’t like certain aspect of your partner and it is something that you just can’t live it, move on.
For example, if your partner smokes and doesn’t want to quit and you can’t tolerate it, it is a deal breaker. If you nag and complain and try to make that person quit, it will only cause resentment and chaos. If your partner has had enough of cigarettes, he or she will quit. You can’t force it. All you will end up doing is causing the person that you love to lie to you and sneak behind your back. That is not a healthy relationship.
He is not going to give up football or beer and she’s not going to stop shopping or getting her nails done and it’s really not fair of you to ask someone to change. Everyone grows and develops at their own rate and people change in their own time.
Relationships can be very difficult to maintain, but when you have the right relationship advice, it gets a little easier. Continue seeking advice and trying to grow as a person and you can be one of the lucky ones and get your happily ever after.
